How to start your SAP Fiori journey in a meaningful way - SAP Fiori Relevance and Readiness Analysis

Posted by Peter Opel on Mar 1, 2017 8:05:41 AM

In the last blog post you have learnt how to identify the most commonly used applications in your SAP system and how to prioritize this list of applications by adding additional criteria. This can be a good starting point for your UX improvements roadmap. Today we want to introduce another helpful way to identify SAP Fiori apps which provide the most impact for your business. With the SAP Relevance and Readiness Analysis in the SAP Fiori apps reference library you can identify SAP Fiori apps that best fit your needs.

Relevance describes the SAP Fiori apps that are relevant for you based on the business processes you use, and readiness describes how ready your system is to use SAP Fiori apps. The automatically created report provides you with the following information:

  • SAP Fiori apps that are relevant for the business processes you use
  • SAP Fiori apps that are already installed and can be used without a system update
  • SAP Fiori apps that can be used assuming a software update or database migration
  • Installations required in order to use certain SAP Fiori apps

The following steps explain how to conduct the SAP Fiori Relevance and Readiness Analysis.

Steps

1. Go to https://fioriappslibrary.hana.ondemand.com/sap/fix/externalViewer/ and sign in on the top right corner (use your S-user ID to login)

2. Click on ‘Get SAP Fiori App Recommendations’

3. Select ‘Create new analysis’ and click on ‘Step 2’

4. Now, we want to retrieve a list of the most commonly used applications in your SAP system. If you already performed the steps of the last blog post, you already retrieved a spreadsheet of the most used transactions and you can continue with step 6. If you don’t have the transaction list available or if you want to update the list of transactions, please continue with the next step

5. Please perform steps 1-16 of the last blog post in order to retrieve a list of the most used transactions (you might have to schedule SAP work monitor, which is described in steps 3-12 of the last blog post)

6. Open the transaction spreadsheet in Excel and remove every column except the t-codes (‘Report or Transaction name’)

7. Save the document as CSV file

8. On the ‘SAP Fiori App Recommendations’ website click on ‘Upload new Profile’

9. Upload the previous created CSV file and click on ‘Step 3’

10. Under ‘Analysis for Product Suite’ select your ERP system (e.g. ’SAP Business Suite’)

11. Next you will have to upload your system profile(s). You will have to this once for Gateway and once for ECC (or any other backend). If you have not implemented a separate front-end server, you have to perform the following steps only once and you can use the the same system profile for both front-end and back-end. The next steps describe how you retrieve the profile for each system:

12. In SAPGUI, after logging in, at the menu at the top click on ‘System’ -> ‘Status’

13. Click on the details icon under ‘Product Version’

14. Click the tab ‘Installed Software Component Versions’ and right click the table. Select spreadsheet and export as XLSX

15. Convert the file to CSV

16. Repeat steps 12) to 15) for the other system if you have implemented a separate front-end server. If front-end and back-end are on the same server continue with step 17 or 18.

17. (Optional) For HANA-based systems, login to HANA Studio. Run the SQL Command/ select * from "_SYS_REPO" . "DELIVERY_UNITS" where vendor = 'sap.com' ; To execute this query, you need select privilege on DELIVERY_UNITS table in the _SYS_REPO. Execute this query with SYSTEM user. On the data return screen, right-click and choose ‘Export Result’ and save the file as CSV

18. Now you should have all your profiles saved. If you have the front-end and back-end system running on the same server, upload the same CSV file for both systems. Select your database type (e.g. ’Any DB’). If you have a HANA-based system also upload your database CSQ file, otherwise just leave ‘HANA System Profile’ blank

19. Click on ‘Step 4’

20. Give a description and name for the analysis and then click on ‘Get SAP Fiori App Recommendations’

21. You can now see all the apps, how they apply to you and if you’re missing any components. Have fun!

Now you are able to tell, which SAP Fiori Apps could run on your system and which components are missing.
