Mobile - the new centre of gravity

Benedict Evans wrote down his thoughts about the new world in which we live in - the mobile centric computing with smartphones and tablets as the main devices.

SAP has to accelerate their transition into the mobile world

When we say 'mobile' we don't mean mobile, just as when we said 'PCs' we didn't mean ‘personal’. ‘Mobile’ isn't about the screen size or keyboard or location or use. Rather, the ecosystem of ARM, iOS and Android, with 10x the scale of ‘Wintel’, will become the new centre of gravity throughout computing.

I think this is the most important part and I could not agree more. Mobile for me means accessability. It is easier than ever to access information via mobile devices anytime and everywhere. These information can on the internet or within the enterprise.

Benedict points correctly out that Microsoft missed the transition into this new world. I don't think that we can say the same about SAP, but I think they need to accelerate the transformation into a mobile enterprise. Every SAP GUI screen should be accessible via all device types. Fiori is a step in the right direction, but I think SAP needs to move faster here. And whether they like it or not, they need to make this new mobile world available for on premise customers too.
