15.000 iPad's for Eli Lilly

The shift from the PC into the mobile world continues - I just stumbled accross this article on US Today about Eli Lilly - they bought 15 000 iPads for their fieldworkers.

This is not a surprize for me. One of our customers in the pharmaceutical industry deployed 30.000 iPads, a CRM solution and a SAP Travel Management app to its users - and there is a very good reason for that.

Enterprise use of iPads

When a sales rep visits a doctor to pitch him his products, he has very limited time. After all, patients are more important for the doctor than sales reps. In the past the rep had to start his Windows laptop, wait until it booted, enter his password, wait until the operating system is fully loaded, start his business app ... and the time is up! "Good bye, see you next time".

With an iPad instead you press the home button, open the app and you are ready to show your sales pitch and your latest products.

The return on investment on the purchase of 15 or 30k iPads will be pretty fast!
